first sourdough in america - at least for us!
march 19, 2011
Salaam Dear Ones,
Well, it happened! The sourdough starter ripened Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week, and Thursday and Friday we baked the first sourdough breads for the Town Square Market. I'm attaching pictures of our very first sourdough customer, Habiba...the bakery case chocked full of offerings...and (couldn't resist) the proud baker. We sold out both days and new customers came to the Market! Just goes to show you: Bake it, and they will come!
All praises to my master teacher, Andreas Zolper, and to my patient and kind German trainer/teammates, Wolfgang and Juergen. They would laugh if they saw my loaves. They're kinda ugly! But thanks to them, they taste good and the crumb is right. Now I just have to get the look down. smile
We'll have sourdough at the Market Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays by 11am. Right now we're baking about a dozen different loaves, trying one thing after another, and they're all quite different. So please join us on our German Sourdough Adventure, and give us lots of feedback. Rene and I are dying to hear every little detail of what you like, don't like, would like, etc. We'll work on nailing your favorites and then settle into a production schedule, but right now it's a free for all. So enjoy the ride!
Sending lots of love and dough,
fattie
